You will hear sounds but not know what they are. You have to
identify them. Then your brain will recognize them the next
time.
So here's a little story to illustrate the point. I was in the
bathroom getting dressed this morning. I happened to grab the
new processor first and I put that in my left ear.
When I turned it on, I heard "Beep, beep, beep, beep."
I put on the old processor in my right ear. The beeping stopped.
I turned off the right processor. The beeping started again. I
thought something must be wrong with my new CI.
Then I realized what I was hearing. Through the open bathroom
window, I could hearing the sounds of a bus as it turned around
in the nearby school parking lot. Beep, beep, beep, beep.
Wow. I was never able to pick that up before. with both
processors turned on, I couldn't hear it. I only heard it with
the new one alone. It was so clear and distinct.
This is my first new sounds since my mapping yesterday. I know
there will be many more to come.
interesting. and it could be very exciting, like your a exploring a whole new world, this one made of sound.
