true colors

Blurb: Turn on the music and listen to my story

You with the sad eyes
Don't be discouraged
Oh I realize
It's hard to take courage
In a world full of people
You can lose sight of it all
And the darkness inside you
Can make you feel so small

I look back over the years with pain in my heart. I'm still
young, and I've suffered so much. Why did this happen to me? Why
couldn't I have been allowed a normal life?

If only I had a second chance. There was a time of pure bliss. I
want to go there and live it over again... Escape into the
memories of a child so naive.

She was in 7th grade, with blue eyes and shiny black hair and
natural curls. Her smile could blind the cutest boy across the
cafeteria as she laughed with her friends.

She had found her first love in a red-headed boy named Jay. They
were just babes. He made her a card in Art class, inviting her to
the first school dance. She was on cloud nine when she wrote
back, "Yes!!!!!"

They were nervous. Neither had ever danced before. Their hands
were sweaty as they began to shift their feet. It was "True Love
4-Ever!" They were one as the music played.

But I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow

A year later, tragedy hit, and that sweet child ceased to exist
In her new, ghastly form, she never forgot that moment. For
better or worse, it stayed with her like a taunting ghost. She
yearned for it, but knew she could never go back.

Show me a smile then,
Don't be unhappy, can't remember
When I last saw you laughing
If this world makes you crazy
And you've taken all you can bear
You call me up
Because you know I'll be there

That past is gone, but the future awaits. I've learned I'm not
alone. My world is dark and silent and sometimes very small. But
there is still beauty. The rainbow continues to shine somewhere
deep inside.

Today, I turned on the music. I heard it, not through memories,
but with hearing bestowed to me by the powers of technology. As I
listened, tears fell from my blue eyes. It suddenly became clear.
That little girl isn't gone. She just took a detour, which is
what life is all about.

And I'll see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow
